Penn State Nutrition Conference Starch Presentation
A key challenge in attempting to
manage the starch nutrient pool in the lactating cow is that it is a dynamic
function which we attempt to evaluate in the laboratory from a static
perspective. To begin with, we have a poor understanding of the
average rate of passage of the total diet. We take starch, dropping the
material into the rumen as part of a larger set of materials without a good
understanding of how rate of passage impacts the various particle sizes
provided.
