Just as a good knowledge of the nutrient composition of feeds and forages is important for optimal animal nutrition, knowledge of the digestibility or amount of feed that is available to the animal is also important.
CVAS provides chemistry in vitro digestibility options for dry matter, crude protein, NDF and starch. We have the capability to run most any sized in vitro project with all samples inoculated from a single run of co mingled rumen fluid. Our in vitro lab has over 2,000 incubator flask positions.
Dry Matter Digestibility:
Individual Time Points* - 4, 6, 12, 24, 30, 48, 72, 96, 120, or 240 hours

NDF Digestibility:
Individual Time Points* - 6, 12, 24, 30, 48 or 240 hours
Time Point Series - 6 of the above time points of the client's choice
NDF Basic RPE (Rate Pool Evaluation) - set series of times points based on feed type
Forages – 12, 30, 120, and 240 hours
Ingredients – 12, 30, 72, and 120 hours
NDF Standard RPE (Rate Pool Evaluation) - expanded series of time points based on feed type.
Forages – 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, 72, 120 and 240 hours
Ingredients – 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, 72, and 120 hours
Starch Digestibility:
Individual Time Points* - 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 12, 24, or 39 hours
Time Point Series - 6 of the above time points of the client's choice
Multi-step In Vitro Protein Evaluation (MSPE):
The MSPE test is based on work by Dr. Debbie Ross and Dr. Mike Van Amburgh. The test is comprised of an in vitro evaluation of feed material followed by treatment sequentially with acid and enzymes. Rumen availability as well as intestinal digestibility is provided. This test must be run with a chemistry crude protein.
The MSPE test is also offered by freeze drying.
